What to bring to the xlights/falcon room at the expo?
« on: July 13, 2015, 01:08:30 AM »
Dear Expo Users;

The Falcon/FPP/xLights development team is going to be in our own room. The room is 20'x25' in size. It should be big enough to allow individual conversations or mini classes.

The room will be staffed by
Chris Pinkham. FPP
Dave Pitts. FPP, xLights, Falcon controllers
Sean Meighan. xLights/Nutcracker, setup of FPP
Gil Jones. xLights, superstar conversions
Steve Giron. xLights, FPP user

This room will have two p10 panels, a megatree, two more matrices, other rgb display elements. as we sequence your songs we will show how to create models, how to share sequences, how to use papagayo.

So what should you bring?
Bring yourself and plenty of questions.

If coming to discuss xLights maybe
1) Laptop with xlights loaded on it
2) All sound files you would use. Bring a song you have not yet sequenced, we will sequence it together
3) If you want to see movies playing, bring some mp4 snippets
4) Bring a spreadsheet with the list of your display elements.
5) Bring a picture of your house. We will use this for PREVIEW. It helps when we do your layout.
Have a list of your controllers (e682, p12r, pixlite, alphapix, renard, lor, falcon, dla). Have some idea what display elements you will connect to each device.
6) Bring your raspberry pi (Models B,B+ or pi-2) or your beagle bone black.  The FPP folks will help you get it installed with latest software.
7) Bring your LOR lms, las, sup files for conversions, imports.

So we do expect we will train you on the entire process (mark up timing on a song, create SETUP, models, previews, create effects, save as fseq, upload to fpp, setup a playlist, run your sequence.

If you bring nothing, we still will take you through the process as we will have all computers. hardware, controllers, lights needed to show you the steps needed.

One note; sean will eb teaching the beginning class in the xlights/falcon room at 11am on thrusday. This is a duplciate of the the real beginning class later that day.

We will have copies of FPP, xLights 4.1.11, Audacity, Papagayo and will help you install them on your machines , if needed.

We look forward to meeting you at the Expo.

Sean,

I did manage to buy a Pi 6 months ago but I haven't had time to set it up. I do plan on bringing it. It came with some small heat sinks. Not sure how these heat sinks are to be installed?

Perhaps somebody can assist me in setting it up. I do have a small little portable monitor. Should I bring it?

I'll be in Ft Worth Tomorrow night and leaving Sunday morning. Looking forward to seeing everybody. --Greg--
