Com Port Channels vs. Unit ID
« on: August 21, 2015, 11:24:46 AM »
Just started programming for this year. I run some LOR 16 channels under dmx with no problem. My 1st XL Setup entry is COM6 and 112 channels. I am not getting output to the some models in Layout  where the Unit ID does not match the hardwired channels of the LOR Unit. EG, Unit OA is hard wired under dmx to be channels 145-160. In the LOR Com output world it just sends data to OA on COM6. This doesn't seem to be the case in XL? Does XL treat-send to COM6 as dmx and the LOR ID needs to be the hardwired channels?

This way is what I am trying in XL COM 6:
2   6   Parking Lot   Regular   1      16
4      Entry                   Regular   17   32
7      Blue House   Regular   33   48
9      Grape Arbor   Regular   49   64
8      Duplex           Regular   65   80
OA       Balls   Regular   Regular   81   96
OC       Big Spiral-CT   Regular   97   112

Nutcracker does ouput to lights a bit differently.

First effects are generated to models. Those models have channel numbers.
Then the effects are rendered to the channel numbers for output.
NC does not care which ports have which channels.  It will use it's own config to determine which ports have which channels and that is what you configure on the setup tab.

I would use the test tab with only the controller that is not working. Turn on channel 81 and it should light up. Make sure output to lights is enabled.

Do not ask to know all the answers, but ask to understand the question.

So your COM6 is a USB dongle that outputs DMX?

OK, I will answer my own question after I ran some tests. XL send data to the Com port then to the Unit ID. It does not send to the LOR unit id's hard wired dmx channels.

Sounds like you have the output type set wrong.
