element data missing xml
« on: September 09, 2015, 10:40:20 AM »
Somehow I lost element data in a sequence I had worked on earlier in the year.
I opened it up, it played the fseq file, and I went to make some changes and couldn't find the elements in the sequence editor. So, I opened the xml file and saw all the element data missing.  I also noted that this sequence had 2 iseq files associated with it. I don't have any model groups, so ruled that out. Anyway I can repair this? Right now I'm using 4.2.6, but don't remember what this sequence was created in, did it back in may or june, it has lor data, and I'm running windows 7

I'm guessing, since you didn't mention anything about Backups, that you have not been using the F10 backup feature. That would have been your answer.

Once an XML file gets re-written, the old data is gone.

On my system, any changed files get backed up by my homeserver, so I could use that. Again, if you had that option you probably wouldn't be asking the question.

Actually,  I did have a back-up, but it had the same issue. Think I created this problem when I originally built the sequence.  But thanks for the answer ( and reminder)

Hi,

You mentioned iseq, which means that you probably imported the data from another sequencer into the data layer?

Did you try to render all and see if the effects played . Can you reimport again if not there ?

Or do you mean that you lost effects that you actually added in using xL effects ?

I imported my lor sequence and then added nutcracker effects. For some reason I have 2 iseq files. The effects  I built in nutcracker show. when I play the fseq file, those effects show, but if I go to the sequence editor, I can't access or make changes. they  don't even show. The elements are in the preview model file, but no data when I bring those elements back into the sequence editor. hope that makes sense.

As far as I know, you cant make any editing changes to the 'effects' that you have imported as a data layer.

Not sure if you can 'see' the stuff that was imported - I have never bothered (have 8 that I imported from LSP).
As long as it shows up on the House preview playing , am fine with that.

If you want to know which iseq is being used , it should be there in the xml sequence file - you can then get rid of the other one if not required.

You can override a model (say mega tree) if it was in your imported seq, by defining  it as an xl model and then dropping effects on it. There was some discussion though on the order of the render if you had the 'same model' with effects on a data later as well as an xl effect - I cant recall which one is done last and as such will apply.

You can't edit effects within a data layer, but you can see them.

If you drill down to the node level that's where you can see the data layer's data.

Yes - I remember now . I am sure that I saw it once , but as I said , after that I imported , did a render all. held my breath , played it and exhaled !

After which forgot about the imported stuff its just there somewhere..
