Element timing question
« on: October 02, 2015, 08:42:12 AM »
Suppose I want to have a effect happen on two different models simultaneously that are the same 'type' of model but have different 'sizes'. How does nutcracker compensate so that the effect 'finishes' equally at the same time on both models with different sizes?

For example sets assume I have a small arch and a large arch. I want to sway the lights so that both arches are in perfect synchronization with each other even though the first arch may have 100 pixels and the second arch may have 150 pixels.?

I have done this in the past successfully but both models were identical sizes so obviously it worked perfect.

Can I have two different size arches be in sync with each other with different number of pixels?

Thanks --Greg--

It really depends on the effect.  Most of the effects will work just fine because we calculate position based on percentages.  Just try what you're asking and you'll see in the preview.  This is another of the many questions I see that fall into the "If I do X will it do Y" category so my question is always "Why don't you just try X and see if it does Y?".  My only guess is you guys are always bored at work and trying to ask questions cause you aren't at home on your pc to try it or you just like talking to us. ;)

I have found if you run "garlands" long enough to "fill up" two differently sized megatrees, they will "fill up" at different times.   I just tweaked on the speed and another parameter (not in front of my home PC right now) to make both trees "fill up" at the same time.   Worked great.  Will be interesting to see what it looks like in real life!!

I haven't used Garlands.  Does it just keep repeating in a cycle?  Cause any effect that repeats is not going to work.  But any effect that adjusts to end with the duration of the effect should do this no matter the model size.

What version of NC are you using? Garlands is one of my favorite effects, I run it at the same time several models with different sizes and they all fill the same time.  As far as I can tell with NC 4.x, garlands will fill a complete cycle based on the length of the timing mark and not the size of the model.

With 3.x, you have to adjust the speed of Garlands to get the fill times synchronized.

I love garlands too. Use it a lot when the music is building to crescendo. I have used it on trees going up, arches going left or right and a tree going left. All completed at the right time. Great effect.
