Strange file saving times-
« on: October 04, 2015, 11:31:07 AM »
My setup consist of 40 models with 10000 channels  of lights.  I create a timing track using Audacity which creates  43 timing cells.  I then create random effects to fill the cells.  The time to save the file is 18 seconds.
Same song, models, and channel count with manually  created timing. There are  28 cells.  The save time is 705 seconds!

If you have a sequence that is consistently taking 705 seconds to save then give it to us with your models file.  What I do find interesting is that it sounds like the save did complete if you wait long enough that was over 11 minutes most people have closed the program by then and posted that the program hangs on save.

True - cause we are spoilt (spoiled)  now. Now on my old sequencer, that would have been when I went to get a coffee or emptied the dishwasher etc ..

Be thankful that it only took 11 minutes on your machine. I started a save and watched for a while. Got bored and came back. It took 17 minutes. (1024 seconds).  Quad Core AMD processor (32bit Vista)

At roughly the 1:04 point in the sequence, you have a "Single Strand Chase" dropped on the "Mini Trees" model group.   For that effect, you have "Group All Arches" checked.   With that checked, it creates a "virtual" string that is bufferWi x bufferHi long (400x400  or 160,000) nodes long to do the chase across.   While the math in the chase effect can likely be improved, it certainly will have issues with something that size.   If you ungroup, it's only 400 long which is much easier to manage.

It is due for an upgrade but my wife uses it and doesn't want me to "move her cheese."
It will happen sometime when she goes out of town. A mysterious computer crash will require it.

And just to check, I removed ALL the "Group All Arches" selections (using Notepad++) and then test saved. It reduced my save time to 50 seconds.
