Sequencer software
« on: February 11, 2014, 10:23:16 AM »
Is the software XLights/Nutcracker a sequencer?
I am incorporating Pixels in my show this year. I have already ordered and purchased Sandevices and WS2811 Pixels, so I am committed.
I experience High CPU usage when I use Vixen3 to sequence with.
I need to go in another direction. But what?
Can I use Xlights to sequence nutcracker effects along with Renard protocol or do I have to sequence in another software and then bring the files into to Xlights to run a show?

well, it doesnt have a grid but yes i think it is a sequencer.

zach, dave pitts, myself all used just xlights last year , no other sequencers.

we will improve it this year so it gets closer.

now we all have almost entire rgb shows. if you are non-rgb i think lor, lsp, vixen is easier to use/

thank you for the reply,
I'm sorry, I don't know what you are calling a grid.  But I don't know much anyway.

I did last season with Vixen 2.1 and all Renard SS's and LED strings.

I already purchased a E682 & E6804 and Pixels in GroupBuy.

I was hoping that I could sequence my display using a combination of Pixels and LED strings using xlights/nutcracker this season.   I tried sequencing with Vixen 3, but my computer CPU usage gets maxed out early in the program and the music doesn't play very well.

I've been reading about Falcon Pi Player, and thinking maybe that is the route I should take.
I don't have enough knowledge if that is what I should do though, yet.
If I can go with FPP then I won't have to buy a more powerful computer to run Vixen 3. Or then maybe I wouldn't need to buy another one if I could use Xlights/nutcracker.
But before I do anything about the computer,  I need to see if I can do the sequencing with E1.31 and Renard dimmer protocol in the same software and current computer.

This years display will be in a different location and I won't be able to use any of the sequencing from last season by Vixen 2.1.

I'm starting over for this season.  Hopefully to do a Mega tree and arches with pixels, driven with the E682 & E6804 controllers along with LED string props driven by Renard SS's,

Is it possible to do this with Xlights/nutcracker?

yes, it will work fine.

xlights can drive 6 different types of USB devices, including the renards. it has e1.31 for e6804, e682, j1sys p12r or etherdongles.

xlights runs fine on a laptop, single cpu and windows xp, 7 or 8.

Alright, thanks Sean.   I'll be studying on how to do it.

It is now June,  after studying and asking questions the last few months I finally have a xlights/nutcracker sequence working with Vixen 2.1 sequence...that includes the Controller and DD-WRT routers.
