My E682 problem
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:34:29 PM »
I have been test driving E682 and pixels with xlights.  it isn't looking very good right now.
 I have 8 WS2811 strings on sockets 1-1>1-4, 2-1>2-4

In the test I select RGB and set color to RED only.

outputs 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 turn red,
output 1-4, first 20 pixels are red, last 30 pixels are green
EDITED> outputs 2-1, 2-2,  are green
outputs 2-3,  all pixels are green except the last nine and they are blue
output 2-4,  all pixels are blue

If I choose another color I get something like above in a different order and they won't be what color I choose.

Must be something I'm doing wrong.
If you have any insight on what might be going on I sure would appreciate your help

Troubleshooting 101: Try to narrow down the source of the issue.

On the E682 config screen, change the test pattern to 1,2, or 3.

That should make the lights all go to a single RGB color.   Change back to 0 to turn off the lights.

If that all works then your lights and the E682 are all ok.   I don't think the issue is with the E682.

Remember a universe has 512 channels.  Your config for bank 1 has 200 physical lights, that's 600 channels.
With 512 channels in universe 1, you'd need to use 88 channels from universe 2 to address all 600 lights.
Why does the E682 config have Universe 2, channel 90 as the last channel instead of channel 88?
(This is a rhetorical question of sorts)

Answer-You can't use channels 511 and 512 for RGB,  Pixel 1=Channels 1,2,3 and Pixel 170=508,509,510
You say the issue is with Pixel 171 which is in fact on your 4th string, 20 pixels down the string.

Change your xlights config for each universe to end a channel 510 instead of 512.

99% sure that's what will fix it.

Let us know how that works.

Thank you for the reply,  I do recall reading about 510 versus 512.

In the beginning I had followed Sean's write up on "How to setup xLights/Nutcracker.  That is why I put 512 for the last channel. I previously printed the instructions and followed them during the setup.  He put 512 as the last channel.
so I did the same. It confused me somewhat at the time, since, like I said, I had read about the last two, 511 and 512 being used for something else.  Anyway I carried on the way he was showing in the picture instructions.
After seeing what am seeing during the test, it did enter my mind if I had set that up wrong.  Now I see what your are talking about.  The first 170 pixels are correct color, then it goes south on the 4th string at pixel 21 on the string which is really 171.
I will go back into xlights and change it 510.
I'll get back with results.
thanks

Alright, I made the change in xlights setup from512 to 510. I ran a test and all eight strings that I have connected perform as they should, so far anyway.

For e682, pixlite-16 and san devices p12r, you set endong channel to 510. I use falcon controllers (falcon-16, fpd). The falcon controllers use all 512 channels per universe. Sorry if I confused you
