HighlandsRanchChristmas.com RGB Pixel setup
« on: February 26, 2014, 05:23:06 PM »
Last year I had 36 strands of 5V 2811's. (Actually WS2812b's)These strands were cut in half and were only 75 pixels long each.

Everything worked perfect and this was my first year of dabbling in pixels. I used three J1 Sys P12S's to operate my pixel megatree. Six 350 Watt 5V power supplies were used to power up all the pixels. Six strands per power supply. These strands were 2.5 meters long and used 30 pixels/meter.

This year I am going to use 60 pixels/meter and will have the same 'length' strands but the pixels will be closer together. there will be 150 pixels per 2.5 meter strand and I am going to use 48 strands instead of 36. I have already ordered and received another P12S card from J1 SYS. I will have to rebuild the 'logic' box and also the power supply box.  Wish me luck!! --Greg in Denver

I failed to mention in my origional post that I also have 110,000 full wave LED's on over 550 LOR AC channels.
I did have difficulty running both LOR and Xlights working together last Christmas. Ran out of time as everything came together last minute and really didn't have time to test everything working together. I ran BOTH LOR and Xlights concurrently. Not cool, but hopefully this Christmas, Xlights will have my 40+LOR AC controllers running in DMX mode as well as running a 20,000 channel RGB megatree. --Greg--

You go, Greg !!!

DMX worked much better on my 22 LOR boxes... Didn't have any trouble running LOR and 12,000 channels of pixels with Xlights.. You should be fine...

My issue was not having the correct  DMX 'Dongle'. I recently bought 2 entec pro compatable dongles. My question to you is what type of Dongle did you use to run your LOR boxes is DMX mode? --Greg--

I've used the Lynx USB dongle in the past, but I sold all my LOR boxes in favor of Lynx boxes since I could get twice the channels for the same dollars.  I run all my Lynx DMX stuff using the Lynx wireless and all my pixels using pixelnet.  Ran everything last year using the Pi player and it worked great.  I am not near as large as you guys however.

Oh yeah, I forgot that you were using the J1Sys hardware ( not familiar with the protocols supported on those)... I'm just using the DLA etherdongle, and pull the DMX off of a DLA active hub... I do have a couple of Lynx USB dongles that I'm not using that you are welcome to try, if you want... I could bring them to the next meeting, if you want to try them...

If they are truly Entec Pro compatible, then they will talk to you LOR boxes. That is how I connected to my D-Light boxes (in DMX).

The only thing you must do is make a passive "converter" that moves the DMX data from pins 1 and 2 (the industry standard pair) to pins 4 and 5 (the pair used by LOR and D-Light).
