Effect Hold
« on: November 08, 2015, 09:34:09 AM »
I'm not sure how to state this question, but what I'm looking for is an effect similar to curtain where I close the effect with two colors at a specific speed.  I only want to execute the cycle once, however, when the curtain finishes I would like the effect to remain or hold in this state.

Is there an "easy" button for this? :)  Is this even possible?

Curious if anyone has any input on this.

Isn't there a toggle on there for repeating it, or just doing it once?  If not, try the "persistent" checkbox on the layer blending window.

You can't tell an effect to stop.  You need to use a static image in the Pictures effect to hold the final state.

I don't want to repeat the curtain motion. I did try persistent, but this isn't layering, it's a single effect, so I don't think that will work. From what I read persistent is for layers.

Normally I will just add an on effect to maintain, but this effect has multiple colors so that won't work.

My guess is that there is no easy way, just making sure I haven't overlooked something.

Didn't think of that. Remind me, is there an easy way to make a picture from an effect?

I could probably do it but wouldn't call it easy.  I'd shrink the model preview till the pixels almost touch.  Then pause the effect at the right spot.  Screenshot then edit the picture in Photoshop.

Thanks Gil for the info. So, just out of curiosity, would it be possible to create an effect that could "hold" the previous effect for the duration of the hold effect? I'm not asking for this year, but for future. Just wondering if that's even possible. If possible I think it would be a cool thing to have.

What out if you opened up to the  node level and then copied and pasted that ? Would that work ?

The only way I see to copy the node effects is to convert to effects.  I really don't want to do this.  I will try Gils idea of picture effect.

Try this...

Put the curtain effect in the location you want and get the timing set to where you want it.  Make sure you do NOT have the Repeat toggle checked.  Then copy that effect to the next timing mark after what you just set up.  On this one, toggle the Persistent toggle on the layer blending.  I know the manual says that persistent is for layering, but this works if you only have 1 layer.

I attached a PDF of the two effect settings.

I did try that and it didn't work, but apparently when I tried I must have been asleep.  ???

I tried again and it works like a champ.  Perhaps I didn't have the two effects touching before.  At any rate, thanks for the help... much appreciated.  That's exactly what I was looking for.

The picture effect worked as well, but of course, this is much quicker.

Nicely done deplanche! I see that the key is to set the second effect to "close", the first one can open or close.
