Import data layer question
« on: December 08, 2015, 09:39:44 AM »
I've imported a data layer... 5 of my elements are playing properly in the preview, but I don't see any underlying data points in the sequencer.  I'm not sure where it is getting mapped.  I'd like to convert to effects on those elements to adjust some timing, but can't find the underlying data.

Any ideas to check the mapping?  Like I said, the element is displaying as expected... so there is data somewhere... just not sure where. :(

As an example--let's say you imported six arches from LOR, sixty channels each.   When you look at the arches in the sequencer you don't see anything.   But when you double click on arches, then the underlying data for the individual nodes is viewable and available for tweaking.

No, I get nothing at the model > strand level (nodes aren't showing) when I toggle.  There is nothing.  But in the sequencer House Preview, the element/model has an effect during that time period (a simple on with fade to off).

You can see in the attached screen shot...

the sequencer is paused when my elements are on... I screen captured the sequence area to show you the Models MedTree1 and 2.  I also have Wreath_Pitch captured since that was also brought in on the data layer import and converted to effects.  The medium tree 1 and 2 are the 2 taller trees behind the mini trees, but smaller than my mega/pixel tree.

The same thing for the 3 trees to the right side of the preview.  A group of 3 trees.  I think 2 were blue and 1 white.  Same thing... effect but nothing in sequencer grid.

You gotta double-click the strand heading to expand it into nodes.

I did... it did not expand beyond the string.  I even right clicked on the strand, selected Toggle Nodes and nothing.

I'd suggest attaching your xlights_rgbeffects.xml and a sequence file so we can look at why those nodes aren't expanding.  You should always be able to see nodes.  Sometimes it will only break down from model to nodes if there are no strands.

Please find attached attached as a zip the files in question.  I just zipped up my whole directory, minus the mp3 to keep it smaller...  let me know if I've forgotten something

I don't know I'd need to check with Dan but your MedTree1 model definition doesn't look valid.  You have it set for 8 strands per string like it's needing to be folded 8 times but it only has 4 channels.  If you change strands per string to 1 for all those MedTree models and then Save the Layout and close and reopen the file you will see you now only have one Node when you expand the model.

Ok, understand... will try today.  But I did a quick test last night and when I did a model, set it up as a 360 tree with 1 strand, it appeared as a single pixel on the layout display.  I'm assuming I will need to do a custom model and draw a tree object myself.

If the tree only has 3 or 4 channels then yes you need a custom model if your trying to make it look like a particular shape.  The other built in shapes are for smart pixels.

Got it... drew up a tree in excel and dropped that in.  Modified the values to 1 strand/string and it is now showing.

Trying to "perfect" the tree look to look like the pixel trees.  Is there a way to copy the existing 360 tree into the custom grid?  I don't know if you guys have that look/display as a config file entry or hard coded.

You should be able to copy the model itself and change the name to create duplicates.  The cells in the custom model also are copy/pasteable.  A lot of times we design them in Excel where we can underlay a photo and then copy the cells into xLights custom grid.
