Scheduler on XLights
« on: December 18, 2015, 04:55:53 PM »
Please note, I know NOTHING (kind of sounds like "Schultz" from Hogan's Heros ;-) about the scheduler on XLights. I am currently using LOR and just use the .lcb functions for my pixels and matrix. I am seriously looking at changing. Is there a tutorial video on the scheduler tab in XLights?  It looks pretty straight forward. Also, how does the scheduler work if your using a raspberry pi?  Again, "I know nothing!" :-)  I use the scheduler often in LOR to run shows on demand when the traffic starts backing up.  I do not like the clunkiness of how the scheduler layout is. However, I can work very quickly in changing out shows in LOR. Is it that flexible in XLights?

Have you downloaded the manual?  Same location as the software releases.

Got the manual Jim. I'll take a look at it. Been running traffic all night ;-)

Ok Jim. Cars finally gave me a break and read over that section of the manual. If I wanted to change what is being played, how is that handled? Is it through playlists?  I would want to do this on the fly. How do you stop a show and start another? Is there a way to do this "Immediately" and then "Gracefully" as well? Again how about with a raspberry pi?  How is that done?

I have not used xlights as a player or scheduler for years so not sure how that would work and I'm thinking that it may not be possible.  There are some things I have seen in the Falcon Player discussions about ways to call other sequences, but have not tried them or paid any detailed attention to them since I have no interest in doing that.  You might want to post your question on the falcon forum.  If I see one of those threads I will send a link to you.

Wouldn't FP be with the pi? Even though I a considering it, I still may not. Yeah send me the thread if you would. Not familiar with FP so any help would be appreciated . Really just want to do this in xlights if I am going to use a pc. But would need the info if I end up using a pi.

Robert,
I have edited my playlist while the show was running and then when the scheduler cycles around, it adds or removes the song from the player.  I did this a couple times so I could show someone a specific song.  No issues.

I actually have changed my show up at least 2 or 3 times A NIGHT for the past week. It helps me keep traffic moving. I do longer when there is one car or no cars. So the "Show On Demand" works great in LOR. One or two clicks and I am good to go. Will it reset quickly and do the new playlist or does it have to cycle all the way through?  I would hate to change the same playlist. I use probably 12 or more with variations.

If the song is inserted after the current song playing, I believe the scheduler will pick it up next.  I only did it once so it was not big deal.  I had to finally cut 1 song out of each show to keep it close to 15 min and allow traffic to cycle quicker.

Mmmm. Not sure that would be good for me. My traffic backs up some nights QUICK! I swear I think they follow each other some nights. Just waiting for the traffic blowout like last night. 8 to 10 cars pull up at once. I have a "Show On Demand" that is either 3:30 long on weekends or 5 min.s long during week nights. I have 44+ mins. However I am having to keep the show between 5 to 7 mins or I get backups. I am in a cul de sac. Backup goes in both directions.

So having to add, delete, run. Mmmm. Would be hard to get my wife to do that. Clicking "Ok" does much better :-(
