keybindings stop working
« on: November 21, 2015, 05:53:38 AM »
Has this every happened to anybody where in, you open up xlights to start your sequencing for the day and your keybindings don't work, and I am saying this from a perspective where they were working perfectly fine the evening before.  I tried closing down xlights, rebooting the computer, changing show directories from one to another and back again, inspected the keybindings file, everything should be fine, but it isn't.  I hit the 'o' key to insert an 'on' effect and it inserts an 'off' effect instead.  i click 'd' for fade down and I get nothing.  I click 'u' for fade up and I get nothing.  't' for timing track insert works fine, and so does 'o' for off, but none of the other effects work.

Is there some way to force the keybindings file into effect?  Maybe inside the program to tell it "use this keybindings file now" ??

Thanks,

If you delete the keybindings file then it should get recreated when you start the program.

Gil

Out of interest..
Does it recreate a new standard file, losing any bindings you have added??

Then I suppose you can grab a copy from the F10 backups you have been regularly doing along the way??

Just think about that question.  You're asking me if you delete a file whether we are going to figure out what used to be there.

All,

So I finally figured out what was happening to cause my keybindings to stop working.... and it turns out, to say the "weren't working" is not completely accurate... from time to time, I turn on my CAPS lock key... and... you guessed it... the keybindings are case sensitive, which kind of makes sense (hey, that is twice as many keybindings you can assign!).  My keyboard doesn't make it easy to see when the CAPS lock is on... Oh well.

At least now I know, when I go to click that 'on' effect and it turns 'off' instead... that is because the keybinding for capital 'O' is OFF, lower-case 'o' is on.  That is how I figured it out... I noticed in the keybindings file that 'O' was off.

Anyhoo...

Hope this helps someone else out there.

I was going to guess that you had caps lock on except that you told us "t" was working.

Not sure how I goofed that one up... Maybe it was intermittent... That is, when I would turn the caps lock off.  Oh well, now I'm all set and hopefully someone else reads this thread and saves themselves some time.

There was another post where someone got quite offended when asked about the CAPS lock...
