Future compatibility

I know there will be lots of new stuff coming this year.  Will there be a different file format?  Or maybe I should say, will work that I do on effects now work with whatever you have planned for later this year or will I have to start over.  Just a curious question and not looking for a commitment.

it is planned that all older xml files will always work with the newest version. if you take the latest version xml and try to use it with soemthing old, that may not work.
