Xlights not recognizing my megatree individual start channels!!!
« on: December 23, 2015, 10:54:56 PM »
OK, I'm beginning to see why my imported xml are screwing up at times.

When I checked all my models, the channels were correct on the modify page.

I used individual start channels for my 24x150 mega, 1 strand per universe starting on universe 11. Due to the way my controller is setup, I have to skip some universes, hence needing the individual start channels per strand. So, I have a total of 40 universes.

I noticed that when my mega would display an effect, that is when my singing faces would have that ghosting. This is using Randy's can can xml.

If I just import my sup file for the mega, and and lms for the singing faces, I don't have the ghosting issue.

If I use any part of Randy's xml, I get the ghosting on the faces.

I looked at the layout tab, I noticed, eventhough I had individual start channels setup for the mega, the models list showed the mega starting on channel 1 and ending on channel 20,340!!

This puts the mega channels in conflict with everything!  It's a wonder I can even play a sequence.

Why doesn't the mega start on channel 5101 like I assigned it's individual start channel.

If I enable overlap checks, and click the mega tree, ALL the rest of my models turn red!  WTH!

Any ideas on this one? Or is that the way it is supposed to work?

Best,
David

I think it's just a display bug.  It doesn't calculate the values it's showing correctly when you manually modify the start channels.  Plus you probably didn't type in the start channel into the start channel field of the model.  Even though its not used to place the data it is used in the overlap calculation.  I don't think any of this is causing data to go in the wrong place.

Hi Gil, yes I did type it in. My bad for not saying so. When you are working on something in the late hours, you can miss info.

If the mega is not affecting anything, then why are parts of my singing faces lighting up, when the mega tree has an effect as well. Seems to be any ON type effect or color wash. If it's a picture or complex type effect, morph, spiral, fan etc, I don't have the anomaly. The singing faces work just fine.

The faces are custom 8 channel models.  I thought I needed to change the models to reflect the channels instead of just using the 1-8 channels on each custom model. IE the numbering for the mouths on the models, to reflect my channels.

However, my first singing face does use 1-8 for it's channels, it still has the lighting up face when the mega tree lights an ON effect as described above.  Also, the faces operate normally on other sequences.

The other anomaly that pops up using Randy's sequences, for some reason it will add a little section to my singing faces as a data layer!

I have to go in select all of them create random effects, then I can delete them.  were are they coming from?
I don't have a data layer for Randys seq. I'm following the same step by step for Star Wars you gave me. Matching my models to his models to use what is needed.

Now when I go and edit the Foster Carol of the Bells I was working on earlier, now it is doing the same damn thing! It is adding the data layer to the faces. I can delete them, but they return as soon as I render/save again!

When the mega is kicking ON, I get the spurious lighting of the faces, didn't have that before.  Also, sure enough, when I check my singing faces, they have that 1 little area of uneditable data layer, I have to delete again.

But, If I resave the xml again, they are back!   I don't know what happened here. I also noticed when checking the Carol of the bells xml; I did a search for data layer, it shows 2 of the same lines on the data layer.

Is that supposed to happen that way.  IE it shows the base nutcracker layer on say line 938, well right below that is also a line 938 with the same data. I delete the extra line, but notepad ++ won't let me save the updated xml, so I guess it's supposed to be that way?

If I can't figure this out quickly, I'm pretty much done. WTH is happening to my setup!  Yes, I have gone back and used a backup of my rgbeffects.xml file, several times.

It's the Holidays, I don't expect any responses from anyone at this point. Maybe next year you can possibly zero in on why this happened.

I'll try one more sequence, if it happens as before, then I know something got corrupted somewhere.

I'll reset my Megatree as it was. I tried using the start channel of 5101, but it doesn't layout strand numbering properly, plus I have to skip some channels due to my tree and controller setup.

If anyone might have some time to talk, cell:817-456-8485

I'm totally stumped at this time.

Best,
David

You really need to try to keep your problems short and one at a time.  I read a post that long and I just get a headache and I'm lost where to even start.  I'll talk about one thing.  The data layer.  Have we not discussed where to find them ten times?  Goto the sequence settings tab, click on the layer you don't want and delete it.  Save the sequence.  It's impossible that its coming back.  Prove to yourself you can solve that problem and understand it then come back with the next one.  I don't want to have to explain these data layers again.

Wow Gil, I am so sorry I gave you a headache. To me all this is intermixed!

I know were the data layer is located!  I see one layer of data, that is the nutcracker data. So, I delete that one?  I thought it was a default.

I am so glad you and other's are having successful shows, I really am Happy for you. Based on your post's it's resounding success.

I have tried my best to get a show going as well, but between all my setup issues, personal issues and now the sequence issues....I am tired and frustrated, so I tried to give as much info as possible to try and have a chance at a solution; so I could also present a show. Your condescending comment was real helpful. Thanks!

Take a damn aspirin and have a Merry Christmas!  I'm done!

Best,
David

The best thing you can do is to attach your xlights_*.xml files and a sample sequence xml file (don't attache the fseq file) so we can take a look.   Vague descriptions don't help much.

At any rate,Here ya go Dan. have to send in separate messages due to size.
Merry Christmas

OK hopefully the sequence. May be too big to send. May have to send to dropbox or something.

Best,
David

OK as I thought. Sequence is too big to post here.  Dropbox perhaps?

I downloaded your setup.  I dropped an On effect that lit up the entire megatree and no pixels are lighting up on any of the monsters so there is no problem with overlap in your setup.  If you are seeing that then it's imported data somehow being mapped to the wrong places.  The red you see in the overlap check is a bug we have when you use individual start channels.
