Recommended FM Transmitter?
« on: April 13, 2016, 05:54:09 PM »
Fellow enthusiasts,

I am ready to search for a FM Transmitter for this Halloween and Xmas. Something simple to plug into the Pi would be great.

I heard Sean mention he uses an EDM transmitter at the Las Vegas Seminar. My dumb question is how is the transmitter connected to the PI and what antenna do you use with the transmitter as well as wich model EDM is needed. Last year I did only a sequence with no music so I have no idea how to make this work.
Thanks
Kent

Sound output of pi to FM transmitter. I plan to use a 3 port mixer to output to speaker and transmitter.

I ordered the EDM-TX-LCD.  There are two flavors for this, one with an enclosure, one without.  My full part number is EDM-TX-LCD-EP.  A lot of people just use the antenna that it comes with, which is just a wire.

You may want to PM Sean if you want to know specifically what he has.

I've been using a CZE-05B. $50 to $60. It doesn't have RDS but it works great. Using only the whip antenna, it can transmit for blocks if I turn on the Hi-power mode.

It connects with a mini rca jack. https://www.amazon.ca/3-5mm-Mini-Plug-Computer-Stereo/dp/B000LMFS7M   - if you want the RDS to work then it's abit more work as you need a mini usb cable and chop off the end and connect it to the Pi. A few of us have done it. Most of that I have documented (albeit badly) over on falcon Christmas.
