Changing model channels
« on: April 30, 2016, 09:59:53 AM »
Ok I must be doing something incorrect but I've got my sequences imported in from my original LOR sequences.  I need to move my CCR controllers to a different universe since their original unit ID's don't work among the other AC controllers.

I was under the impression that you could just change the models channel numbers to new numbers and open/save each of the sequences and they would work with the new models channels.

But when I open any of my sequences up after I had changed the models channels that models data in the sequence is blank.  Even after I've rendered it again.

So what is the trick in changing a models channels and being able to update all the sequences for that models new channel address.

How are your sequences imported, as effects or data layer?

Not really sure of the difference (naming wise).  I imported then as a new sequence and selected the song and then selected the .lms file.

Then data layer. Those are based on channels, not models. So, you will need to redo the channel mapping in lor then reimport into xlights. You can also try offset, you can have a positive and negative offset. However, this assumes all channels are offset the same.

I thought it was data layer but wasn't totally sure.  Thanks.

Also thanks for the info.  I'll have to work at seeing how to move them to other networks or what ever is needed so they will import into the different universes.

Would there be anyway that I can export/save my current xLights sequence and then import it back in so it would then be linked to the models?  Just a thought.

Read the manual on data layers. I think it mentions offsets. That's probably the easiest option now. If you want something linked to models you can always promote the effects, at least I think that's what it's called. I'm not in front of xlights, but if you right click on a model in the sequence tab, there should be an option where you can move the data layer data into effects. This is tedious but would then be pointed at models, not channels. Personally, I use data layers and it's not a problem as I'm not changing my layout much.

Thanks, I'll look into that, otherwise will start with the LOR changes.
