Sorry for what may be a stupid question , but
1. How do you get that xlights volume icon to show ... I don't think I have ever seen it iie I always get only the Windows audio thingy icon.
2. Even if found, what would it be used for ?

I use a headphone plugged into the laptop/ pc .. When sequencing  xlights.

In 2016_36 the volume mixer settings are finally fixed. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in on this!

To address the questions, I use mine at work sometimes when an Idea pops into my head. With the old volume icon being so big, I couldn't lower the volume on just the Xlights while leaving the Speakers, system sounds, skype and my desktop IP phone interaction at certain levels for my daily work. I would have to lower all the volumes collectively to bring Xlights to a reasonable level to avoid blasting Christmas music from my office. I had finally gotten used to this and was able to "estimate" where the slider was on the Xlights large icon and "grab" it to adjust it. to get it to "show" click the speaker icon on the bottom left bar near the clock and click on Mixer. All the "sound using" programs should be listed there.

Again, Thanks from my work mates for allowing me to NOT blast Christmas music in June!!

Thanks .

Did not even know that such a thing existed despite being a Windows user for donkeys years.

Embarrassed to say that I have always only moved the one sound slider up and down or mute.
