Spiral Tree/Node Spacing
« on: June 28, 2016, 05:39:46 PM »
Not sure if this is a bug (or working as intended), but I've created a Round (Spiral) Tree: 360 Deg, 1 String, 150 Lights/String, 4 Spiral Wraps.

It appears that the LEDs are spaced differently at the top versus the bottom (LEDs are spaced further apart at the bottom, but are much closer at the top of the spiral).  I would presume that when/if I build this model, I would have equal spacing of the LEDs through the entire spiral.

I think this is also a noticeable factor when I run basic chaser-sequence.  The chase appears to run faster through the broader-spaced LEDs, and runs slower through the close/dense-spaced LEDs.  I would assume that this spacing is important for other effects as well.

Is there something I need to do, to adjust the LED spacing?  Or is there an intentional reason for this, that I'm missing?

This is one of the things I mentioned to Sean when I added the spirals and then completely forgot about.  :(

It's currently constant angular.   If you wrap 50 nodes around a single spiral, each is 360/50 degrees apart.   Thus, they are further apart at the bottom than the top.    That was very very easy to write, but not likely correct.   I did mention before we released it that I wanted to relook at that, but then never got around to it.   Please log an issue so it doesn't get lost.

I wouldn't have thought anyone was using smart pixels for a spiral.  If you run all the strings straight up and down you can digitally create all the spirals you want.
