Length/Size of audio file
« on: September 02, 2016, 08:00:23 AM »
I'm creating a new musical sequence and I keep crashing! Is there a limit to how long a MP3 can be? The one I'm trying to use is 46 minutes! It seems to import if fine, take a minute. I was able to save it without effects applied, but it keeps crashing within 30 seconds of opening the sequence. I assume xLights may not be able to handle that long of a MP3. Any ideas?

I'll guess you are on Windows?  There is a memory limit you are running into because a 32-bit application can only use about 3.5GB in Windows.  If you run xLights on Mac it's a 64bit process and can address 2^64 bytes of memory.

A sequence that long will always give you problems.  Size of files, time to render, and every time you want to edit it you have to open the whole thing.  Using multiple smaller sequences that run back to back would be much better.  Also in my opinion very few viewers will stick around longer than 15 min, a lot even less than that.  YMMV.

After I posted my question I went to the good old, 6 years old, MAC and it worked just fine.

I agree with what you are saying! I just want to see if I can do it. It's actually a 46 minute TSO video that they put out years ago. Rendering it took over 6 minutes and the only prop is a small p10 matrix.

Take a look in your log. We log how much memory your sequence will use.

Feel your pain. I have a 12 minute sequence that has to be managed from my MacBook Pro. Eventually, the guys will address this. Pun intended. )
