renumber/quantity issue
« on: September 28, 2016, 07:38:14 AM »
I found today an error in my layout.   I made an error in quantity of pixels on a few elements.  I was using a spreadsheet that had an error in it.

I opened nutcracker and tried to edit my elements.  first this I did was to renumber the start of the element.  Then I reduced the number of pixels on each element.  When I saved it, the start channel was updated but the quantity of pixels was not changed.

For example,

original start channel of MT 1 is 5252 and original pixel quantity was 128  5252 plus 384 chan = 5636
original start channel of MT 2 is 5637 and original pixel quantity was 128 5637 plus 384 chan = 6021
and so on till MT is a total of 8

I edit the MT 1 to read start 5252 plus a new pixel count of 120 or 360 channels = 5612  end channel stays at 5636
I edit MT2 to read start at 5613 plus 120 pixels or 360 channels = 6972  but is ends at 5997

This is true for the 12 elements that I modified with both new channel counts and starting channels.

THe starting channel number is correct but the total channels for the updated pixel count is wrong.

See the attached video..

When the mouse disappears, I am clicking the save button to update the info.  That is not seen in the video

I'm sure everything is fine you just found a strange way to prevent the list from refreshing.  When you change a number in a field please click on a different field to latch in the number.  What I saw is you hit the up arrow a few times but you never clicked on another field to latch in the change which triggers the refresh function.

Never thought of that.   I will give it a shot!

So I tried that...

Still have an issue.

I have attached what I am using as my layout so that I ensure the math is right.  On the right side of the pic is a spreadsheet with the math and on the left is what XL shows as the updated  channels...

Originally I had 128 nodes per MT.  That has now dropped to 108.  On the first tree which is highlighted with the circles had a start channel of 5252.  That has never changed.  I only updated the pixel total to 108 from 128.  following the last post, I clicked on other fields to get the channel count to update.  I even tried restarting to see if that would help.  As of now, the first MT has a channel count of 287    I'm expecting to see the XL info to match the spreadsheet info for channel start info.

I can do another screen capture if it helps

Thanks

So if you exit xLights saving changes and then restart does the end channel change?

There is no change after a save or even after editing a sequence.
The channel info is updated, as well as the node count.  The ending channel has not updated.  All 8 edited elements have been modified and checked to see that the ending number are indeed wrong

5252 plus the 108 nodes or 324 channels is not 5539.  I was expecting 5576 (if my math is right)  even though I started at 5577 for the next element.

then the next one starts at 5577.. Plus 324 is 5901   XL reports 5894 as the end channel

It really is not that big a deal since there are no overlapping channels but it appears as though it is not counting properly after the edit I made to channel counts.

Well it updates the end channels just fine for everyone else so we really need to have your xlights_rgbeffects.xml file to see what the problem is for you.  I just tested a couple setups and when I change Nodes per Arch it's immediately updating the end channel correctly.  Hopefully someone else can test your file because I'm leaving for vacation for 5 days.
