Playing Tiny Sections by Mistake
« on: September 30, 2016, 12:52:49 AM »
Forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology here, but when sequencing I often click the cursor where the waveform is, and then click the play button to start playing from that point. What happens annoyingly often is that rather than placing the cursor at one point, I accidentally highlight a very tiny range, so when I press play, I get something like 50 ms of sound and it stops.

It would be nice if the software detected a ridiculously small highlighted area, so it instead started playing from that point.

I noticed that the Space Bar starts and stops the sequence. Are there keyboard shortcuts for Pause and Replay Section?

I either drag mouse on waveform to highlight a section and use spacebar to play it -or- click the timeline, right above the waveform, this will start playing from that one mouse click.

Yes, I've used those methods as well for certain things. There are times that I like to mark a location to start playing in the exact same location (and vary the amount of time I play), rather than clicking above the waveform which would change each time I click.

Highlighting an area much longer than I'd anticipate and pressing play is a workaround I suppose, but there are times that I want to play through a song, look for things to improve, and once I've fixed them up, I'd like to continue playing until possibly the end (without needing to find where to click abovethe waveform) and highlighting to the end would be a bit of nuisance.

Not a big deal, but thought my request would be a nice bonus.

I almost never highlight a play area. I usually click the timeline, the area above the waveform, and it will immediately play from this point until the end, or you stop it. Why is this not acceptable for you?

I think the problem you're having is your Technique with the mouse. Learn to keep the cursor still when you click. I have the same problem occasionally when I'm trying to go too fast

I have the exact same problem at times. I just attribute it to operator error. (Old man fingers on the keyboard) :o

I know the issue is with the my mouse control (and kenoman742's apparently as well); I thought it would be nice to have the software prevent this user error.

Looking at it more, it looks like if I keep my mouse perfectly still when clicking, the problem won't happen. If I hold down the mouse button, and move the mouse one pixel to the left or right before letting go of the button, the issue happens (which sort of makes sense because you drag to the left or right to highlight a range). However, what's surprising is that if I hold down the mouse button, and move the mouse one pixel up or down before letting go of the button, the issue happens.

May I suggest that you go into your mouse settings and change the sensitivity to help. You may have it set to be too sensitive which was fine until you got to this program. And I've yet to find any human that can move the mouse cursor up and down without any lateral movement.

We probably have users that want to be able to select 50ms...lol.

And to back that up.  If I want to create a 50ms timing effect doing the selection like that is necessary.

Can I ask if anything with regards to the sensitivity of playing from the  timeline has changed in this latest version. The only reason I ask because I have in the past had little sections highlighting when trying to play from the timeline but it was usually because I was being a bit quick with the mouse and being a bit slower at clicking on the timeline would then work next attempt. But I have found with this latest version that despite being very careful, it can take multiple goes to get the sequence to play from a set point because instead I often get tiny segments playing instead. No biggy, I can live with it but was just wondering since the topic was brought up.
I'm using version version .50 by the way  :D

Nothing changed.  That selection is all based on whether Windows or whatever OS tells us about your mouse movement.  If we get a mouse moved message while the button is down then we read the new position and you get a selection.

Now I come to think of it, I did upgrade to OS Sierra so maybe the mouse sensitivities changed on my mac. I'll give those settings a tweak.
