Scrolling text on a matrix
« on: October 08, 2016, 11:25:58 AM »
Hello, I'm a brand new to pixels and xlights. I'm adding a matrix to my display to scroll text. I'm using rgb nodes and have it setup in xlights as a 20h x 30w matrix(10 strings, 60 nodes/string and 2 strands/string.) My sequence is set up as animation only with 10fps. I did successfully get my matrix model to scroll 1 line of text, but now I'm lost.....

I'd like to add 2 lines of text but can't figure it out in the sequencer. Is there a way to highlight the first 10 strands and drop the text effect into it and then do the same with the last 10 strands? Can I alternate the colors on each letter between green and red?

Also if possible, I would like to have a background effect like snow falling.

Is this covered in any of the tutorials?

Thanks,
Todd

Right click on your Matrix in the sequence you can add layers above or below, then this is where you add extra lines of text background and anything else you like

Ok, so I right clicked and got a background image but I still don't see a way to add another line of text. If I add text to layer it just gets all jumbled.

On the releases page (where you downloaded xlights) is a link to the xlights manual.

You will need to shift the position of the text up or down.  Otherwise it will be layered directly on top of the current text and all jumbled.

This is where I'm hung up. I'm still learning how to navigate. Do I shift the position of the text with the mouse in the sequencer grid or is there a place somewhere in settings. I did a quite a bit of reading and figured out how to change the colors and add background effects and am very happy with my results so far.

Thanks Jim, the lower half of my layer settings box was covered. Once I exposed the sub buffer box the light bulb in my head lit and now I have 2 lines of text.

Everything I did in the past was on vixen 2.1 so as I get my head wrapped around xlights, I'm realizing how great and a powerful it is.

Thanks everyone!
