Hardware issue. Any one seen this before?
« on: December 10, 2016, 11:36:41 AM »
We have 2811 (C9 style) across the front of the house.  Multiple strands connected together with power injection in at about the 2/3 point and at the end.  Worked like a charm last year.

This year we set them up in the same order with same power injection.  NOW we have a dead spot.
At the end of a string of lights that are working the next light string that is plugged in is out to the end of the line.
We have plugged a known working light into that plug and it does not light.
We have changed the plug on the end of the last working string to see if it was a faulty plug, we still cannot get any pixels to light after that connection.

We are stuck. ???

I would check to make sure that those channels are activated in xlights and your controller.

Yes we did.  At this point we are calling it a plug issue, and have tried a few things but  no success.  We are going to fight this issue another day.  The front facing display elements are good.

you can check for proper voltage with a voltmeter, once you confirm that then it has to be data.  Not sure how comfortable you are with messing with the wiring, but you could remove a bit of insulation from the data wire running into the plug then directly connect that to a pixel and see what you get.  It would confirm if the plug is bad.

try replacing the first string as well , last pixel could be faulty- a long shot i know,
Multimeter is quickest option if data and pwr are coming thru plug then, setup in sequencer or controller would be next step, best of luck
