LOR CCR Setup
« on: January 29, 2017, 11:43:04 AM »
Hello,
I'm relatively new to xlights but want to dive in and take advantage of the pixel programming capabilities. I've been playing with it for a few months and have read through the manual and have even managed to program a short sequence. One of my ultimate goals is to use it to program my LOR 12-CCR tree this year. Here's where I've hit a wall; not with the programming but with the setup.

After reading and re-reading the manuals, I'm assuming I have to run the ccr's in DMX mode which isn't a problem. My dilemma is how to set the 12 ccrs in the xlights setup tab. When I look at the choices in the setup tab after selecting USB->DMX, I have no idea how to fill in the information. BTW, currently my ccrs start at 0F and run through 1A (hex).

I've searched this forum but didn't find anything that seemed to speak to this issue. If there is a post on this already please let me know, and I'll go look it up. Also, any additional information that can be provided would be awesome.

Thank you very much!  :)

I can't offer any help in getting your LOR stuff to work in xlights, but my suggestion is to sell your LOR stuff. When I sold my CCRs, the money I made bought almost triple the lights. Just a thought. You may have a hard time selling here, but I'm sure there will will a lot of interest on the LOR forum.

Sally,

It would be easier if you just pick which way you want to run and then we can go through how to define it.  If you run them in DMX mode then you will most likely need to change the ID you have programmed in the CCRs because in DMX mode the LOR ID is what defines where in the DMX data stream the device will grab data.  So a device set to 0F I believe will grab data from channel 241+ in a DMX data stream.  If you run in DMX mode you are limited to 3 CCRs per output because DMX only has 512 channels per universe.  It also helps to tell us whether you are going to run the show from a PC with xLights or from an FPP.  With that many channels you will most likely need to use DMX mode.  Also which USB dongle are you trying to setup?

I'm using a PC and planning to run my show out of LOR. My plan was to take advantage of the xlights features to program my ccr tree and export it to LOR.

With how difficult it seems to be to use the LOR-CCR controllers with xlights, I'm leaning towards keeping the LOR-CCrs in either superstar or pixel editor and using xlights for the pixels that run off my e1.31 network.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It's not difficult to run LOR CCR's in xlights at all.  I used to run 5 of them until I retired them from the show in place of normal ribbon strips that don't require a controller per strip.  The problem is what hardware you use to run the CCR's not which software package.  You are going to have problems running them from LOR also you just might not know it yet.  With the LOR dongles those things are going to have lag and I know that from personal experience.  Combining SuperStar or Pixel Editor with xLights output is going to be a fun challenge also.  You can do everything those programs can do right in xLights.  In fact there is no reason to not sequence your CCRs in xLights even if you run them from LOR.  Just setup any dummy output for now.  You don't need to have the setup screen perfect or final to get started.  Just draw your tree on layout and start sequencing.  You could probably get a lot of help on our Facebook group just search for "Official xLights Support Group".
