Importing sequences from others
« on: March 02, 2017, 03:02:09 PM »
Hi all,

First time doing a light show and first time user of xlights on the.  Got to admit - pretty impressed with both.

Just wondering (may already have been covered) but when importing a sequence from someone else, it retains all their models and asks what do you want to map what to in your display.  It currently goes through this one by one.  Is it possible to show all the models coming in on one pop up on the left side, with drop down containing all the models I have on the right side.  If I change it to one of my models, it maps.  If its left blank, retain the incoming model, so if I build that model down the track, I can use it.  For instance, if the incoming has arches which I dont have, still keep it in the file so if I build arches down the track, I can just activate it.

Cheers

Instead of just opening their sequence you need to perform an Import -> Import Effects where you can create an import mapping file that can be saved and used over and over.

Ahh thank you for that.  Sorry - thought it had to be done simpler.  Can you put me in the direction for how to do it?

Ronald Howard has a really good tutorial on YouTube showing how this works. Just search "xlights importing"

Thanks. Obviously put this query in the wrong area. Just one thing. Some people put a video of the show along with the sequence. If I watch the video I may go like what that item does , and like what that one does it will look good on my (fill in the blank). Is it possible that when you add a model in layout, that it adds the item name in the image (can be toggled on or off like layers). This will then get exported along with the sequence. Then when i go to import, the model only image will show along with the import screen. I went to import one the other day and the items were described and bedroom window, toilet window etc. local descriptions that works for the original person but not me. Does that make sense?

All gotta do is create a show directory and drop the other persons files in there and then run xlights pointed to that show directory and you will see their layout.  You can click any model and its name will be highlighted in the list on the left.  Is it possible that new users can learn as much as possible about exiting functionality before the bright ideas start flowing?
