I may have missed this. But here goes.
« on: March 26, 2017, 08:00:19 PM »
When I have 2 different types of models and both models use the same node addresses we  could make one default and unassigned. I like this feature. It allows me to tie together different models thru a custom model.
Today I can't seem to do that. I can go to the layout page and run (overlap checks enabled box) and it does show both models that could have some addressing issues.

when both models are in the sequence and I drop an effect on one I expect the same effect to be dropped on the other. It is a given that they are 2 different looking models the effect will look different and that is just the point.

I saw we have an (allow blending between models box) don't really know what that is for but I have checked this to no avail

What am I missing

The after the show break is over and time to get serious.

The effect doesn't drop onto two models but if you create 2 models that map to the same channels the data will show up on both models.

I mis spoke i am only dropping on one model but it is only showing on that one model even though on the layout page it is telling me I have an overlay on 2 models. does not matter which model I put the effect on it is only showing on that model and not the other.
I am using  the latest ver 2017.6.

I have 3 circle models
I have 1 custom model that is taking the same numbers as the 3 circles
give it try if you have a moment

thanks

the program is working the normal way between to models but when I make a custom model and have it unassigned. The effects do not appear on the default model. I may have something wrong in the custom model but once again it does show up correctly in the layout page

thanks
Brad

You will need to share some files or make a video so I can understand what you have done.

Hi Keith,

This is what I am trying to accomplish and probably going about it all wrong. Give a look and tell me what you think

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi9aSnOzEY8

this is a small video from Brian

@ 2:34 you will see the circle move from one circle to another. This is what I am trying to do in xlights .

I would want one lone string of data that I could loop in and out of circles and around them

Is that possible to do with a custom model?

I have 3 circles each 64 nodes

thanks so much for your time

Brad

I could do all that with just built-in Circle models.  The answer is yes you can do that with Custom models.  There's almost nothing you can't do.  You just need to arrange your render buffer in a straight line.  Several ways to do that.

If it was me I would set up submodels one for upper half, and one for lower half of the circle.

SuperStar is doing all that with Morph effects so its the same in xLights.  You can tell the Morph exactly where to start and stop on the circle.

Thanks to both of you, well even you Keith.  Just kidding.   I have not done anything with  submodels yet. This sounds perfect and a custom long string of nodes to just do that loop e loop e thing.

Keith I just watched your liquid video. Man you are something else.   Its a look into Keiths brain for sure.

What would be the best video to watch on custom models and on the submodels if I might be so Rude as to ask

Brad

Probably the best 2 for these topics.

Keith, early in the first video, you created 30,000 "Null" channels rather than many universes of channels. Since I use the FPP for output and not xLights (though I might use Test), is there a Performance difference using Null channels, particularly for xLights load times or even file sizes? or is just a convenience thing?

Null is a convenience thing. If I am using fpp and I will never really output to lights from XLights why bother specifying the controllers ... Particularly in a demo. Now we have fpp connect you may still want to do it though.

Hi Keith,

I think you made referenced to group to group on one of the videos. Will we be able to take either a series of models and or groups and tell an effect at what point to tie to the next group or model for a continuous effect.
Hope I said that right.

I am able to do this with separate sub models. It just because a timing issue with fade and morph.

Sorry Brad I don't understand the question. Maybe a video would help?
