XLIGHTS FOLDER CONTENTS
« on: July 05, 2017, 06:33:16 PM »
Hi everyone,
could someone do me a favor, I somehow messed up over time and now my main xlights folder and all its contents are spread between  three or four different sub folders. And that's as well as my folder for sequences  friends sequences, music files, video files and backup files. So I would like to fix this once and for all and get my ex lights  back to being very organized. It seems every time I tried to re-download  X lights it reinstalls  the locations of all the other files  and re-breaks up  all the exploit files to these sub files were they were previously. Can anyone give me any kind of ideas on how I can correct this.

Ralph

Well you lost me.  The installer is not going to re-break up files.  You can tell xLights which folder to install in and it puts everything in that one folder.  I put each new version in its own folder so for the latest version I installed it in C:\Program Files\xLights_2017_18

Hi and thank you.
Unfortunately this is a little complicated. Like I said I have three folders and over time they were all used  as my destination folder. So now all three folders have different backup ffiles  everything was duplicated  or in this case triplicate it  so I want to know before I do it if I combined all three of these folders into one is this going to work. I would think it would  but I am not a X lights guru by any means. I think files that are duplicated of get that pop up saying you have an exact file  so that would be great the files that aren't duplicated  would all stay there  and then from there  I can fix my folder  and put everything into very detailed folders Soto comes out and  I can get back to being were organized in knowing where everything is. Can anyone tell me if they think this is going to work

Just merge everything but the backup files and leave them where they are.  As you sequence they will be recreated with new backups.  The old backups should be purged every now and then anyway or eventually you will be filling up your disk drive.  Then there is the issue of the configuration files.  If the configuration is the same in each of your folders then just pick one and copy those files separately.  Personally I find having multiple folders a godsend  When I download a shared sequence the last thing I want is those files cluttering up my own show files.  And if you like the download then you should use the import function and not copy the files into your show folder.

Unfortunately this is a little complicated.

I just can't picture what you are saying as being even slightly complicated.

If the multiple show folders have different names then it may well be painful.  One way that may simplify it is package sequence. Although there is also a risk it will make it worse.
