Help Fading Music
« on: November 24, 2017, 09:50:40 AM »
Thanks for all the hard work on Xlights!!!  I am loving what you guys have done - love having the scheduler as its own separate app (this I believe has solved the issues I was having last year), I love the "priorities" (this may have been a feature in previous versions, but I did not notice), and the "AC tools".

I have a very simple setup, 4 basic sequences:  1) all lights on-no music, 2) Song-It's about the Cross, 3) "Song" - Linus Monologue, 4) "Song"- Light of Christmas.   These 4 sequences play on the following schedule:

Sat - Thur, 4pm-9pm:  All Lights on, No Music
Fri, 4pm-6pm:  All lights on, No Music
Fri @ 6pm:  "The Show" (It's about the Cross, Linus Monologue, Light of Christmas - total of about 12 minutes).  Then back to All lights on - no music.
Fri @ 7pm:  Same as 6pm
Fri @ 8pm:  Same as 6pm
Fri @ 9pm:  Off

When the lights are on, I would like to play some Christmas music.  At the "end" (@6pm, 7pm, 8pm on Fridays, and @9pm all nights), I would like the music to fade to off (go from 100 to 0 volume over about 10 seconds).

I have attempted to run a playlist as Background.  However, when "The Show" comes on, the two audio files are played together.

I have also attempted to create a playlist with a command to reduce the volume by 10 every so often.  However, the scheduler only seems to pick up the first reduction, and no more.  Another option that I have tried is to have one playlist (ReduceVolume) with just the command to reduce volume by 10 to be played by another playlist with the command "play playlist looped" and then "stop".  This option did not appear to work - it did not stop the looping.

I could sequence a bunch of songs and shuffle them, however when "The Show" comes on, I am thinking (I have not tested), there would be an "abrupt" end to the music. (I am not a fan of "abrupt" ends).

THANKS for any thoughts/tips/tricks.

This would be a lot easier to talk you through than tick tack with 20 messages. Some of what you want is possible. Some isn't.

Sounds good, it is not a priority for this season, just looking ahead to next year already.   Can I get back with you after the season?

Consider it forgotten until you raise it again.
