Unable to assign individual start channels
« on: January 05, 2018, 10:25:08 AM »
Greetings all.

Physically I have 4 strands of AC icicles that will be split across controllers (to minimize cord runs) so the channels will not be continuous.  I created an icicle model with 4 strings (300/string, single color, white) but the checkbox option for individual start channels is grayed-out and I cannot select this option.  I am only able to set the start channel, thus xLights assigns 4 continuous channels.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug with xLights?  I am running xLights 2017.45 64bit on Mac El Capitan.

Regards,
--John

It’s not a big. While that option is there on all models it isn’t supported on that model type and hence disabled.

You really should be able to have continuous channels even when split across controllers.  Let your xLights config drive the controller settings not vice versa.

Gilrock, you got me thinking.  I will be using FPP on Raspberry Pi with Renard controllers.  Do I need to even worry about the channels?  I believe the physical channels are configured in FPP, correct?

You will want the E1.31 definition in FPP to match xLights setup.  What I'm saying is on each controller you should be able to assign which universes to listen for and route any universe/channel out any output you want.  You would just have to multicast any universe you plan to use on multiple controllers.
