sorting broken? :(
« on: January 17, 2018, 12:10:21 AM »
I am having a bad xlights night.

I can no longer sort.

Well, I can sort, but it doesn't do anything.   Specifically with groups.

I am running 2018.2, I have rebooted and reinstalled everything.

Screenprint attached.

This is on existing and new sequences.

Screenprint 1:  new sequence: default order of sorting (not sorted at sequence creation)
Screenprint 2:  display elements view, same sorting
Screenprint 3:  What I am trying to sort by
Screenprint 4:  after I sort - no change.

Help... losing my mind.  Everything has been working fine up until a couple of hours ago and it seems that the world has gone kablooey with xlights.

I thought the sort capability was rather new.  I know Keith just updated it to try to make it smarter.  I wrote the original code to create a new sequence so I know it initially never cared about sorting.

Which sort option did you use. Did it sort the models ok and not the groups or are both wrong.

Hey Keith

I sorted with groups bubble to top.  The groups bubble to top - but they are unsorted or sorted randomly (seemingly.).   It appears that the actual models are then alphabetical under the groups.  I can confirm tonight.

Thanks for looking.

Bubble to the top deliberately does not sort anything. It deliberately keeps the groups and the models in their existing order. If you want to sort them choose one of the name sorts.

Hey guys - sorry been away for a couple of days.

I am looking more into this.   I don't think its an issue with just the groups.  It LOOKS like the sort (any kind of name sort, or "sort by names with groups on top"  - is ignoring any numbers in the name.  Please look at the attached screenprint.

This is immediately after a sort by name only.    Second screenprint shows just when I scroll down to the groups after "sort by name" - all of the G's are sorted together, the numbers are skipped, and then it is sorted by the first letter.

Numbers just don't count for sorts, and I did everything with numbers including leading 0's just like the video tutorials told me to do so the sorts would work. ;)

coincidentally, this happened (was noticed) right when all of my off effect rendering broke and since then any time I add any model to a group, the whole system freezes up for up to 1-2 minutes.

wondering if at the end it's just a real bad set of install files even though I have already reinstalled.

Can you please share your xlights_rgbeffects.xml file?  I tried creating some sample names and they seemed to sort just fine so we really need your set of names.

Thanks Keith - so I take it that you guys don't need the RGB Effects file then?

Really appreciate the help (and potential knowledge that I am not crazy.  Oh wait, I think that was already certified!)

Have a great rest of your weekend,
Brett
