Assistance with single strand
« on: January 23, 2018, 08:34:37 PM »
I have 4 lines in a group.  They way they are physically wired is
line 1 top to bottom then line 2 bottom to top then line 3 top to bottom then line 4 bottom to top

On the group, I want to use the single strand effect and make them all bounce from the bottom to top or top to bottom.  Currently using chase type left to right, and the way they are wired, the start point is different on each line (top for line 1 and 3, bottom for line 2 and 4 for instance).  I have tried the different render styles. Other than creating additional groups for the lines going in the same direction is there anything else I can try?

I would make a shadow vertical matrix model that is 1 string with 4 strands. It is just another model that uses the same channels as your line segments and I would put it as unassigned so that it does not show up the layout screen.  I'm sure there are other ways as well, but at least I understand this even if it is old school.  I've done this with my 5 porch columns that are too far apart to be a real matrix but it lets me do things using all of them as though they were one physical model.

Just reorder them using a sub-model.

Thank you - will give both options a try. Would a render style of “force all start location to same” be beneficial/able to be added?

An example - I have 6 porch columns about 5 ft apart.  I have numbered the channels so they are contiguous.  I made a vertical matrix that is 6 columns wide that is not displayed on the layout or included in the whole house layout.  While I cannot use that for matrix type effects it works great with some effects and puts the effect on all my columns without having to put the effect on every individual column.

With the new stacked horizontal model group buffer style even that may not be necessary any more.
Looks like my enhancement request may have been already added.

Unless I have done it wrong, stacked horizontal render does not change the side it starts on.

I just modeled up what you said and if I check the "Group All Arches" checkbox in Single Strand they all bounce the same direction.

D'oh! Group all arches!  Didnt think about using that - thought it related to arches.
How I got it to work (results may vary)
Single strand on the group (direction L-R or R-L)
group all arches ticked
render style per preview.
