Unusual question about voltage specs
« on: February 11, 2018, 02:54:56 PM »
New xlighter. Hi I have been following lighting tech for a number of years, just getting started though. OK time for the question.
I was wondering what the data signal voltage is for pixels. I know that the two main voltage's are 5 volt & 12 volt. But does the data line at same voltage or is it normal common voltage for data communications?

I ask because I purchased an Alpapix 4 from HC and have bought 4 50 ct nodes however 2 of them are 5v other 2 are 12v. I was wanting to control all 4 off of 2 outputs by only tying neg. & data from pixels to controller for the 5v and just inputting the pos after controller with 12v going normal connections at controller.
If this isn't possible guess I'll keep using the simple controller for the 5v.

The data signal is always sent at 5v. As long as you don’t link the positives together you can mix them on one output.

Awesome to hear. Thank you. Looks like I will be able to do what I plan. I will keep everyone updated as I get the project going waiting on new PC to arrive around 14th.
