Unhandled unknown exception
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:18:55 PM »
Trying to start xLights.  Receive error of "Unhandled unknown exception; terminating the application."

I tried to connect to xlights files located on another computer (shared) here on my home LAN.
Not sure if that change was the problem, or if it is coming from somewhere else.

What I need is:

1. What files (accessible from Windows File Manager) do I need to get to send in?
2. Where do I send them?
3. What is the most likely file to revert to to get back into production?

Thanks in advance
Al

I assume you are on Windows since you use Vixen.  It would be useful to post the log file.  Mine is located in C:\Users\Gil\AppData\Roaming\xLights_l4cpp.log

If you know what show folder its trying to use you could rename it so it won't find it and prompt you to select a new show folder at startup.

Thanks Gil.

I renamed the show folder on the remote computer, then started xLights on the local. It asked for a different folder, I pointed it to the main files on the local.

It Worked!

For my own knowledge, in what file is the last used show folder maintained.  I searched, but found nothing.

Edit:  I can reproduce this quite easily.  Is there a character limit for the show folder?

The last show folder is stored in the registry. You can override it using the -s command line switch and pass in a show folder. Or you can rename the folder and xLights will prompt when it can’t find it.

Thanks Keith.  I was looking for that override switch.

So it should be pretty easy to figure out whether it's actually that path or contents in that particular folder.  Just create a different show directory at the remote location.  Personally I never like working remotely because of these exact kind of problems.
