A question about single color lights in groups
« on: June 15, 2018, 05:20:31 AM »
I have some A/C lights that I've defined in xlights around some windows.  One strand of Red / White and Green on each window.  I have those in a group as well.   When I apply On with the color white selected to the group of all 3 windows (with the three colors) it turns on all the lights in each group.  If I select only red as the color it only turns the red lights on in the group.  Same for green - green turns only green lights on.  I've check each of the individual windows and they are all set to single color and the appropriate color selected.

I thought the On with white selected would only turn white on in a group of single channel lights that are set to white?  If I don't have a color selected then all the colors are on too.

What am I missing? Shouldn't white just turn the white ones on?

Thank you,

Jason

It's unlikely you will find any bugs in how things get colored so what you are seeing is how it works.  Try using Orange and watch what turns on.  A Single Color Red model will turn on based on the value of the red channel in any color you drop.  When you drop White that means Red=255, Green=255, Blue=255 so it turns on all of them.  You can't have no color selected so if you check no boxes it defaults to White.

There may be a way to get it to work closer to what you want but I'd have to play around with the program and it's not in front of me right now.  What I would do is experiment with the Single Color Custom option.  When you select that string type the color will only set that model if the Hue values are within like 0.01 of each other when you convert the select color and model color both to HSL color space.  So maybe try selecting Single Color Custom but set it to a red color.  I'm not sure you can select pure red cause I thought I saw the program automatically figures out that's Single Color Red and switches it for you but again not sure without trying.  Maybe select Single Color Custom but make it red=254 and see how it works when you drop pure red and pure white on it.  Let us know how it goes it may help others.

After going through what you said to do with the color numbers I see what you mean.  The colors behave exactly like you said.

Also like you said to get a color not to come on in a group it does have to be a bit off the color codes.

I think in these cases I shouldn't use effects applied to the whole group for single color lights when I need more control.  I'll just expand the group and sequence it as needed.

Great explanation on how this works.
