Basic left to right "walking bass" effect
« on: November 17, 2018, 06:44:35 PM »
Trying to set up something that I think should be simple but can't make it work in a simple way...

I have 5 A/C strings on LOR channels strung left-to-right on a wall that I want to add this effect to:

1) x O O O O
2) O x O O O
3) O O x O O
4) O O O x O
5) O O O O x

I've tried using a "bar" effect but it doesn't give each string equal time.

The strings are all equal length, but the problem I think is that it seems to pick up positioning from the preview and the pespective in the picture makes it think that the RHS strings are far shorter than the LHS. So xLights give them less time.

How can I get xLights to just run the 5 channels at equal time spacing rather than using the perspective of the preview?

I don't want to create an additional Orthographic preview (which is what I generally for cases like this), but I'm sharing this sequence with a family member and would like to keep the technical aspects as simple as possible.

So you gave no clue to how you have this modeled.  If you need it that precise just use On effects on the channels and you can make the time spacing whatever you like.  You might be able to use the Marquee effect if its one model.  I haven't really tried it with single channel AC but you can dial in a skip count to exact number of strings/channels.

I used a Group with 5 strings in it. Got it to work - the magic was I had to set the group up as Horizontal Stack instead of Grid as Per Preview.

PBKAC.

Thanks!

I sat here with my buddy trying to figure out what PBKAC means.  I came up with "Please Be Kind and Considerate".  I said you think that's what it means.  He says yeah.  I said but why.  He said maybe he thinks your about to blast him.  I said yeah I am known for that...lol.  Then we googled it and had a big laugh at the whole thing.
