My Pixel Tree is Upside Down
« on: November 30, 2014, 12:27:20 AM »
First, where is the xLights FAQ? I have a bunch of really basic questions (like what does "Persistent" do?)

I did a few effects (like Butterfly) that look great, but in one sequence I used Meteors and Fire, but the meteors go up the tree instead of down, and the fire is on the top of the tree instead of the bottom. What did I do wrong?

My tree has channels 1,2,3 as a bottom pixel; channels 148,149,150 as a top pixel; channels 151,152,153 as the next bottom pixel, etc.

I created a "Tree 360" model with 50 RGB Nodes per String and Start Channel 1. Since pixel 1 is at the bottom of one of the strings, and the strings go clockwise, I choose "Bottom Right" as the Starting Corner. It looks correct in the Nutcracker window, but when I export it as a Light-O-Rama LMS file, my effects are upside down!

1. There is no FAQ at this time.  This is free software with an all volunteer coding staff who have their own displaus to work on.  Someday there will be a FAQ, but the emphasis at this time is to get the software working.

2. I seem to recall that when I first did my tree I also had my start at the bottom right corner and that messed everything up.  Moved my start to the bottom left corner and then all was well, but I use a tree 180.  I also recall that a tree 360 uses as the start point the back center.  There is a "to do" item to provide more starting points, but that is a future item.  However, that would not explain why your fire is going down or your meteors going in the opposite direction.  I suspect you are looking at some hardware issue that allows a backward or forward orientation to your channels.  You did not state what hardware you are using for your pixels.

In the model screen press display nodes to see how we think your tree is wrapped

Problem found. As usual, it was operator error.

In the Light-O-Rama Sequence Editor, I use one track as my master DMX track, and I copied channels from that track to my "Pixel Tree" track. In the Pixel Tree track, I wanted the top pixels to be on top, so the channels are in the reverse direction from the master DMX track.

Since I configured xLights to use the actual DMX channels, I should have pasted it into the master DMX track, but I pasted it into the Pixel Tree track instead.
