Trying To Set Up A 360' Tunnel Patch
« on: January 08, 2019, 04:26:17 PM »
So, I'm making a fully-encircled tunnel patch (think infinity tunnel, maybe?) as a mock-up, but I'm having problems getting the layout / controller config properly set up. There are 28 strands of 180 pixels each, in total, though far fewer are used. It's two sets of 90px LED strips. From the start of an output, it burns the first pixel (as in, null pixel), since it's wrapping from the outside, then runs for 56 pixels through the tunnel, but I am left with 33 pixels that don't fit in the tunnel, and thus must be nulled out. From there, the second strand of 90 is attached, and it runs back in the opposite way. So, of the second strand, the first 33 are burned/null, then 56 run through tunnel, then burn/null the last pixel. Second strand is a mirror image of first, just reversed.

I've been fiddling with virtual strings, reversed outputs, zig-zag counts, but I just can't seem to get it to be patched properly. Could anyone assist me, potentially, with what my F16 controller configurations might look like on a given line, or what kind of parameters I should use in xLights for the matrix fixture that I'm using?

I've got an idea as a total fallback that I might try tomorrow morning, within xLights, creating each strand as a single line prop and reversing every other one, but that seems like a hassle and I'm not sure what the final product will look like. If anyone else has any advice they'd like to lend, I'd certainly welcome it. Thanks!

I decided to say screw the matrix fixture, and I created the patch I needed using 55 Single Line fixtures, added into a group, reversing the start direction on each one, and manually assigning the start channel to follow all the String Output settings, virtual strings and all. Doing it through the Matrix fixture was giving me grief, so I just sculpted it by hand, in the manner aforementioned. Worked out pretty well, though it was a little time-consuming to do that way. Sorry I beat anyone who wanted to help to the punch :)

Can you upload some photos of what you are creating? Sounds interesting.
