Dmx moving head setup
« on: January 09, 2019, 01:26:06 PM »
I purchased 4 dmx moving heads (U King models) which are cheap heads just to test. I have a cat5 cable going from the computer to serial port 2 (set for dmx) on an f16v3. From there a cat5 goes into an rj45 dmx adapter then to the head. I have the head setup in xlights as universe 2 start channel 1. I have the serial port set as universe 2 and start channel 1. I have e131 defined correctly on the f16v3. The dmx start channel in the head settings is 1. I have output to lights ticked in xlights. I have the 14 dmx channels the head uses defined in the model. When I move the sliders I get nothing. I thought maybe there was something going on with the controller so I tried another F16V3 and got the same results. If I place the F16V3 in test mode then the head moves about and pans, tilts, and the lights will change colors. Is there something I am missing here? I for the life of me just cannot seem to figure the issue out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure on your model but I think most of those have a channel that has to be triggered to turn the unit on.
By using the test mode on the Falcon you're triggering every possible Channel and by default you're probably hitting that channel that activates it.

Thanks for the info. I will check into that and see if that is a possibility.

Thank you very much. I looked through the instructions (which wasn't much) and saw a preset for on on channel 3. Hooked everything up and turned channel 3 all the way to 255 and instantly everything worked. Thanks again. No telling how long I would have messed with it before going off the deep end!
