2019.17 Locks on save
« on: March 16, 2019, 10:30:55 PM »
Hey All,

Not sure if I needed to post here but......  As old Tweetie used to say...."I dood it".....

In 2019.17 I can open an existing sequence.  When I save it and try to exit the program I get a "Not Responding" message and XL hangs....I have to use Task Manager to close it....

I went back to 2019.16 and it doesn't do this....it will open the sequence saved by 2019.17 too....  I downloaded 2019.17 and reinstalled it and the problem came back.....backed up again to 2019.16 and it works again....

Windows 10...64bit....  Didn't see any kind of error log but not sure where to find it.....

W e l l, if you were on facebook you would have seen that there are some render issues with .17.  I'm guessing here but if you have render on save you are trying to exit without the render ever completing.  Turn off render cache in the settings or wait for .18 when the issue will be fixed.

You don't have to be on Facebook.  I'm not right now.  Downside is you hear about less.  I didn't know anything about this either.  No big deal I'm still running 2019.12.

As one who has recently left all the DIYC Facebook groups, I can say that it turns out that being there is not necessary.  Not being on there does, however, prevent the 1% of real/good information that does get put up there from being presented to those of us who are not there.  (I may agree to 2%, but the rest is a waste of time - IMHO.)

Monitoring the Zoom meetings has been the best source of information, so far, when not depending on Facebook.
Second would be the websites of the different programs.

I am not sure the hang on exit and slow render time problems are related.

I have released private builds which appear to address render speed problems but I have someone who claims it still hangs on exit.

To see if they are related try turning off render caching. If it doesn’t hang then I may have a fix. If it still hangs then there are two problems.

No one should have to be on Facebook but also understand that equally no one has to post information in multiple locations. So some people will only post information on Facebook  as al says that may have a low signal to noise ratio but it does mean you end up missing out on some things. As long as you don’t complain about missing out on those things then all is fair.

Well....To test this I reinstalled 2019.17 (for the 4th time)......to  see if turning off render caching made any difference.  But without turning it off the hanging isn't there now!   :o

I didn't do anything differently this time....just installed and made no changes.....but upon saving it renders and exits perfectly.

If it starts hanging again I will try turning off the render caching.....and report back....

Thanks Keith....
