Mini tree with different models
« on: February 01, 2016, 01:01:36 PM »
HI All,

I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a mini tree with the standard zip/zap design, but then in a grouping way have all the pixels at the bottom, all the pixels at the bottom row of the tree, then 1 from the bottom, all the way to the top.  That way you could do concentric circles from bottom to top .  Any idea how you could set this up?

What is a standard zip/zap design?  My mini trees are models as a horizontal matrix for each tree so it doesn't sound like you have the same kind of trees as me.  With the custom model you can draw the pixels in any order you want though.

The way effects are applied to models, they observe what is the "bottom" and "top" based on how you position and orient in the preview window. As Gil said, you can actually put the pixels in whatever order you want in a custom model. The effect application will still base bottom to top references per the preview window. Size, location and rotation are taken into account for single models and for groups. (that is the purpose of applying a grid type to groups).

ok, that makes sense.  I am planning on using the boscoyo medium sized mini trees.  Guess I will have to map out a model for them.

Sorry, in the one earlier post I meant a zig/zag like pattern.  Basically make a tree model and make it only 10 pixels per strand and 1 string of 90. This would be for my 180 degree mini tree.

Was hoping to be able to reference all the bottom pixels and then the next ones up and so on so I could have concentric rings.  Is this possible using the standard tree model or do I need to come up with a custom model?

I'm still not sure what you mean by concentric circles?  If you group the trees and do a bars effect or color wash from bottom to top isn't that the same thing?

If you want to reference the bottom, middle, or top pixels separate from the others then you will need to use a custom model.

The bars may give me the look I want.  If not I will have to do a custom model.  Thanks

Do you have a video you can reference that shows what you are looking for?

That's using morphs and bars. That can be accomplished on the model, no need to do anything custom.
