Multiple models on single line

I'm new at this and under the gun trying to get a Christmas show set up at the last minute, and have run into a problem that I haven't been able to solve yet.  We have three elements of 3, 3-LED rect. modules running on one line that need to be addressed individually.  We're using a 4 port controller for total of 12 elements (36 LED modules).

How do I set up Xlights to be able to address each element separately?  I tried setting up port as 3 universes and universe size of 9, but only the 1st universe works with the first 3 LED modules.  None of the other modules will work.

Hope that makes some sense.  Any ideas or help?

So these are all smart pixels?  And the second group of 3 is wired in series on the same line as the first 3?  If so then in the Start Channel for the 2nd model just configure it to start 1 channel after the end of the previous model.

Thanks - I will give that a try.  Unfortunately my controller just died and now dead in the water.  It's been one of those days -

These are the smart pixels and all connected in series.  I'm using an Alphapix4 controller, and using the Xlights test function will only activate the lights on the first universe.  2nd and 3rd sets do not work on the string (only using 1 string right now for test purposes).  With the Test Lights screen open, it shows three universes with nine channels each, but only the first universe actually responds.  So setting start channels won't help with the test function -

The multi-universe setup can be made to work but in your case you're just causing yourself more headaches.  Just assign everything to one universe.
