Animation/Picture Folder
« on: November 06, 2019, 06:43:42 PM »
Hello everyone.

I am importing a sequence to map, everything looks good on the import except for the pictures. I cannot get the picture folder to update to my computer location. Of course because of this the photos do not show up when playing the sequence. Any help would be really appreciated.

THe imported sequence (folder and images etc) has to be under your show folder  - open it, render all and save. *THEN* do your import mapping.

Thank for the response. I am doing that, but it doesn't seem to work. (Mac OS- Not sure if this matters)

1. Change shared folder location to where my files are.
2. Open Sequence
3. Render sequence and save.
4. Animations and photos are still under the developers local computers address.
5. Frustration setting in.

When you said "Shared folder" does that mean Show folder?

Also the instructions he gave you were to move the sequence folder underneath your show folder and then open the sequence and save it.  No need to change your show folder.

For the record I bothers me xLights can't find the files since it seems like it should be pretty easy for us to figure out where they are in these cases.  We spend way too much time trying to explain this weird process.  Someday I'll get bored and fix the code.

For some reason, this just isn't working.

The sequence I am working on is in the show folder, in its sub folder with all associated files. My steps (which have been unsuccessful)

1. Open xlights- confirm my show folder is set.
2. Open sequence folder (which is inside show folder) that I am currently working on. Inside sequence folder is all files in addition to folder that contains all images.
3. Render all
4. save.
5. Close sequence- reopen in the hope that success has finally been granted. Failure! All hope is now lost. Wait, try again- no, all hope is lost again.
6. Go to xlights forums again.

Well look at the logs it will have message about any issues not being able to find those picture images.  Or do a Tools -> Package Log files after you've opened the sequence and post the zip file for someone to inspect.

I have a show folder for each year. I move the image file folder to there also. All the links are broken at that point.
Open your sequence, click on any picture file in the sequence, do a Ctrl A to select all effects, that should highlight all effects, then in the effect settings window, right click on the path to the pictures, and select bulk edit path, then select the location of your image folder. Render all, all should be good.
I know it is a pain, but it works. Maybe one day it could be fixed to recognize all paths in the show folder.

This is a user error. If the show folder name does not change you can copy it anywhere and it will just work. When you rename the show folder that breaks things and you have to manually fix it.

Ok, I did shorten the names of the files this year, folder name did not change. That would be great if this was a one time thing. Just trying to get the users links back working.
