xlights effects
« on: December 20, 2019, 04:04:36 PM »
First let me say this software is amazing. I'm trying to learn by looking at some of the free sequences on Google Drive. So, where to start I see where people have used multiple layers on a row how does this work? especially when they use the Off effect in conjunction with other effects at the same time. Also I've seen examples where the actually put effects beyond the end of the music? why Where is the best place to learn about effects and ways to use them with layers? This is my first year I'm in the US and I had lots of help from a guy in Aus Joel Delaforce getting the initial setup using FPP and a teensy32 and now also WLED

Multiple layers lets you combine effects into even more effects. Using the Layer Blending options you can even use effects to mask other effects. Best way to visualise this is to download a few of the free sequences available and have a look at what other people have done.

Effects beyond the end of the music/sequence duration is usually a mistake - Check Sequence will tell you as much.

There are some videos on the http://videos.xlights.org/ page - search for layer
I know just enough to be dangerous :0

I allowed effects to go beyond the end of the sequence but we still cutoff rendering at the end of the music or animation duration.  Allowing it to go beyond the end does allow things like controlling the speed of an effect.  Some effects move faster when they are shorter so you can stretch them out and slow them down but still cutoff at the end.
