effects taking pirority
« on: June 14, 2020, 04:01:04 PM »
Hope everyone is doing good

A couple of years back I had the attached effect sweeping through a tree and star. Now it does not matter which effect is on top inside the Display Element category I can't get the sweep to go through the star if the star has an effect on it.  maybe I missed something.

attached are 2 videos of the tree and star

Your video doesn't give us much to work with. Some things to look at would be the layer blending type set on the star or if things have changed in the master View.
The layer blending can accidentally be changed if you have the effect highlighted and roll your mouse scroll wheel while your pointer is over the layer blending window.

A sample sequence showing the problem would be more useful.

First thanks for taking a look at this and if you need anything else just ask

Brad

This is odd. I have attached 2 sequences. I make an effect preset of both going thru and not going thru. but when I put the preset in a new sequence both of them (going thru and not going thru) came thru as going thru.     Way too many going and not going.  LOL

it is acting like it is in the general setting of the not going thru sequence.  maybe?

On the sequence where the pinwheel is passing through the star the way you want you have the allow blending between models checked under sequence settings and the other one isn't.

You are attempting to blend effects between two different groups in your example.
The more efficient way to do this would be to change your layout so that you can apply the effects within one group.

Thanks

I always feel so stupid when I miss the obvious.

I do appreciate your time and input.

Is it possible to allow blending for a specific effect or time frame? Rather than the complete sequence?

You are probably going to make me feel stupid again.   Go head I am ready.

There's no way that I know of that you can apply the blending between models in a temporary fashion.
I did see several ways to improve your layout.
One thing that I found confusing is you have your star split into three parts instead of doing it as one model and using submodels if needed.
We could always do a zoom session to share ideas.

And just to be clear if we took care of a few things in your layout you would eliminate the need for the blending between models.

I would love to do that Zoom thing.

It is a little more complicated than just that star. my main star is broken into at least 21 sections (see attached)

I have tried to use sub-models twice now and never got it set up correctly

I am est Time

let's see if we can work out a time

I was a little bored and I recreated your Megastar as a custom model with the proper submodels and buffer to Center effects on the star properly.

wow    I need you to be a little more bored    lol      here is yours on the left and what I was using on the right

I don't understand how you can do that without separate models.    what if I want to reverse some of the legs, not all of them

Do I need a video on my computer to zoom?   I have one I just have not installed it.

and here is a photo you may enjoy of the complete set up last year   I have added more of the single sticks and 8-pixel sticks.

I think I will answer all your questions on Zoom to make this a little shorter.
You don't need video to use zoom.
A microphone is quite helpful.
If you don't have a microphone you can use a phone to call in for the audio while be logged in with your computer.
PM me when you're ready and I can give you a private Zoom number to connect to.
