Importing Model Effect to a Group..
« on: August 26, 2020, 02:10:38 PM »
Forgive me if it already does this .. but it seems that when mapping  the effects of a single model over to a group (in my layout) it does not default to render "Per Model by Default". Would it make sense to do that by default or perhaps add a check box?

Scenario: the original sequence may have a pinwheel on a  single tree - I map it to my Tree Group. It silently makes that a pinwheel across all my trees.

I just found some cases of this .. and now going back to ensure that each of the groups are rendering correctly.

Thanks.

I don?t think it should. It is actually much more common to not do that.

I know I mention to you on zoom about this .. but my thought was just for the case when mapping from a single prop to a group prop.

I can see your point for a group to group or group to single prop - dont change those defaults.

I will review my mappings going forward - I have found many cases where my mappings from prior years were wrong. Not being knowledgeable about the render styles,  I missed this subtle differences in the sequences output.

Here?s the issue though. The import does not k ow it was on a group or not. The o lay way it could in theory tell us if there was some property that was only present on groups and right now that is only sometimes render buffer styles. This is not a reliable thing to rely on. I have looked before for other reasons at the import knowing whether imports are from groups or not and the change would be quite large as the sequence does not really know the model details just the name.
