Obj file
« on: November 16, 2020, 05:24:15 AM »
Hey all! Thanks for the add. This is my first year ever! So I have a lot to learn yet. I got almost all my pixels hung. When I import my obj file it comes up like this. Any reason why? Yes I can set it so it looks good but as soon as I hit reset or align with ground it?s like this again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

When you export from wherever you created it you probably need to swap the Y and Z axes.  I know its an option I used when exporting from SketchUp.

Thanks! That's where I imported it from. I just need to find where that option is. I'm so new at this, I have more on my house than I do on my computer.

Its in the export dialog.  There's at least 3 checkboxes for the Y-Z flip, exporting both sides, and exporting edges.  I check all but the both sides option because I don't want xLights trying to put materials on the undersides of every surface.  But that means you have to have the correct side facing out.

Okay, I got it to import straight, but the front is the side of the house. And the grid looks a little crooked. Is there any way to fix those besides moving them manually? But when I move the and save, when I hit reset it takes it back to the side view.

I personally would always rotate the object in the original program so that you don't need to mess with it once it comes into xLights.  But inside xLights you always have the translation, rotation, and scale settings for every object.  Rotating the view around does not get saved.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the help. Now when I start a line or use the poly tool, is there any way to set it directly on the point I want? It seems like my line is always behind the house.

All models start on a fixed plane.  The PolyLine will always define the points on the X/Y plane initially then you can move them around.  Things that are typically on the ground like a Tree model uses the X/Z plane for initial placement.  I had to pick a 2D plane for determining mouse intersection.
