Effect on Whole house then parts of whole house
« on: December 18, 2014, 09:11:01 AM »
Hopefully I can explain this enough.  How do you place an effect on your whole house model and then on the next timing mark put an effect only on another model that part of the whole house?

So for example do like a red colorwash on the whole house and then next timing mark only have a green colorwash on just the garages.

Just put "None, None" for the whole house model on the second row and then you should be able to control individual subset models.  Like I have my upper roofline divided into 3 sections called "UpperRoofLeft" "UpperRoofMid" "UpperRoofRight" and then I created a model group with all 3 and then used it to create a whole house model called "UpperRoofline".  Then I can have all 4 models on the grid and control individual roof sections independently or as a group.   Just make sure they say "None, None" when you want to control them using a different model they belong to.  So whole house models don't need to be the whole house either.  I use several different groups of whole house models.

That doesn't seem to work for me, its like the none-none is overriding those not allowing them to turn on.
The colorwash on the house works and does shut off but the colorwash on the garages never turns on (at least in the preview it doesn't)

Example
Time              House            Garage
4.00               Colorwash
5.00               None             Colorwash

I'll double-check when I get home.  I thought that's what I was doing.

I think the correct answer also has something to do with which model is the farthest to the right in the Nutcracker tab.

Looking at the all models view the house model is the farthest to the right.

I got it figured out, I just inserted another timing mark a tenth of a second before and issued a none on the house and then did the other models after with the effects needed.

Thanks

Well I'm not sure what you ran into.  I did a test and it worked as I described and I tried it creating the House model as the first and the last element.  I'm wondering if you had residual information in the xseq file.  When you put "None" in the field it doesn't erase what's under it because there may be data you've imported.

You could have tried deleting your xseq file and then recreate it by starting with your xml file.

Always remember that NC renders effects from left to right by row.  If the whole house is on the far right then whatever is in the effect for that model at that time frame wins, ie. it overwrites anything else for those channels.  I always put my wholehouse model on the far left and then add other things to the right.  Remember that you can rearrange the order by right clicking on the model name.

Yeah but if you set the whole house to "None" then the other effects better take priority no matter which sie they are on or we need to look at the code.

Yep looks like it was left over stuff in the xseq file.  Deleted that and that extra timing row and did the none on the house and other effects on the garage models in the house and it worked.

Thanks for the help
