Stuck on a few things. Thanks for the help.
« on: January 06, 2021, 07:50:12 AM »
Hey folks, I can?t believe any of the below are anything other than user error/ lack of knowledge, but I?m stuck. Not a total noob, but not world champ either. Spent some time playing and researching all the below. Trying to ?proof on concept? some things. Any, and all, help/thoughts much appreciated.

Matrix modeling questions:
1)   Trying to build a horizontal matrix that goes round a corner in X-lights (think bay window), and have it show correctly in 3D. Tried using Polyline with a drop but only allows for a vertical matrix. Could rework the node/string but how to load into X-Lights? And no access to wiring diagram for a polyline with drop in x-lights.
2)   Alternatively, how do you create a ?supermodel??  The opposite of a sub model. So two or more matrix get treated as a single long matrix.  E.g. draw 10 polylines and then merge into 1 model to solve for the above. Do you create a group for this? And then how do you create sub models for the group (for the left front and right of the bay window in this example?).

Text on a large Spinner
I?d like to have text on a spinner. That works but it always starts from 180 degrees disappear after one rotation to then start again.  Any way to have the text continuously spin or ?chase its tail?.  Looks like it does the same (disappears) on a 360 mega tree model.

X-Schedule
Trying to start a second fseq while the first is still running. So I can essentially blend two tracks together for ease of show creation/sequencing.  For an MC between songs.  I want the MC doing something on a matrix for the last 5 or 10 seconds of a song, then the MC bit, then the next song.  Without having to do 1 massive FSEQ.
Trying to ?step? but when I up the priority (from 1 to 7) on the shorted fseq the entire step gets shortened. It also reorders the tracks in the step. In the video I tried to follow (XLights 4 Webinar series: xSchedule (Part 2) ? March 2017) @10:30 it did not seem to be an issue for Keith, so I?m just missing something.
Note: I also tried a negative"delay" but hat seemed to stop the second fseq playing at all.  I assume only 1 can run at a time.

Music
No mechanism to trim music to length in X-lights. Correct?  Has to be done in audacity (say) and then loaded into x-lights at the preferred length.

May all your bulbs be bright.

Matrix:  Personally I would not try to conform it to the window that is just a prettiness factor for the preview and has no benefit to the actual show the viewers will see.  You can create 3 models and then create a group and add those 3 models to the group.  You don't need sub-models because the group expands to let you sequence to any member.  The downside of a group is you need to create a special render buffer to get effects to work right.  I'm not home so can't test but I believe you need Horizontal Stacked or maybe vertical and I'm not sure if you can set that as the default in Layout but that would be ideal.

Text:  Without experimenting I don't remember.  I thought some of the motion options would repeat and some don't cause I remember having to tweak the effect length to prevent the text from wrapping back around.  If you use the Vector option you can specify the start and stop locations.

X-Schedule:  I just can't follow the question and I don't have enough experience I just play all my sequences sequentially in normal style.

Music:  Use Audacity.  Really no reason for us to allow trimming the music because then it would require all show players to have the same feature.

Thanks.

Matrix: Will give it a go.  I'm trying to play with the 3D rendering options.  Because one wall is at exactly 90 degrees from the 2D viewing angle, when using a (spiral) all the lights on the side come on at once which looks odd unless you stand in just the right spot. I'll try separating and regrouping.  Question.  can i still have it wired as a long 250 node 12 down horizontal matrix? Or would i have to rewire the prop. (Would prefer not to as that's a lot of pixels to pull out and put back in.)

Text:  thanks,  i'm sure i'm just missing something.  My test case was a 20 ring 50 node spinner with "Ho Ho Ho" that I'd like to just spin continuously rather that appearing, disparaging and then reappearing.  I'm sure i'm just missing something.

X-Schedule.  Thanks.  I'll play some more and try and refine the situation.

Music.  Thanks, that's what i do.  Just making sure i had not missed a trick.

And thanks for the rapid response.  With the lockdown here in LA what used to by a 90 minute commute is a great time to play x-lights instead :-)

That's a case where I think the matrix will look better if you just model it flat.  Once you try to wrap it 90 degrees you can never render to it without 3D rendering options which are always going to have a perspective tilt to them.  You should almost never need to rewire.  I'm not following what change you are thinking of that would require rewiring.

Thanks Gil.  I'll pay some more on the matrix.  Agree that no need to rewire if i leave it as a long flat matrix.I was thinking if i broke it into new physical matrix's, but thinking again, i can create some sub models.  I'll join a zoom call if i need more on this one.

Any thoughts on text scrolling and having the text "chase it's tail" on a spinner?

I've had partial success on the X-Schedule.  I can now get two songs to play at the same  time, but cant get a delay on the second one.  I 'll play some more and join a zoom call once I hit the wall. These forums are great for simple things but not great for discussion/complex problem solving.

Even if its 3 physical models on the house it can still be 1 model in xLights.  I'm just saying there is no need to try to wrap the matrix in the GUI that just makes sequencing harder.  No matter how you wired it you can always create a custom model and type in the numbers anyway you like so you could literally have 3 physical models that have pixels pushed in random order and represent that with 1 custom model in xLights.
