Question on Directory Structure
« on: September 20, 2021, 10:14:24 AM »
I'm trying to set up a standard Directory Structure for Media.

Some people use "_lost" - where did that come from?

Some people use "images or graphics".

Is there a preferred Media Directory structure?

The reason "_lost" exists is because there is no preferred method.  I prefer to have all media associated with an image in a subdirectory along with each sequence.  Others are worried about wanting to use that same 300KB image twice so they want all their media in a dedicated media folder.  Dedicated media folders tend to result in resources that cannot be found later when sequences are shared or even when you move to a new computer.  So when we package a sequence we take all the media that does not reside with the sequence and put it in the _lost folder so that the person importing can have the media without recreating the original file structure.

I too keep my media associated with a sequence in the same sub-directory.  If I need it in 2 sequences, I copy it over.  Disk space isn't a problem these days.

Then, I presume you keep your images in the same format but, do you keep in the sub-directory "_lost" or do you just create "_lost" if you export and share a sequence?

_lost is auto generated and perhaps used, when you export a sequence - there is no need for you to create one or use one. If you want to keep all images in one place (if), then create a directory called images for example.

Thanks for the clarification!

I didn't understand that it was autogenerated on export.
