DMX Moving Head not responding to DMX?
« on: October 21, 2021, 04:13:21 PM »
So I have a MagiColour Beam V2, but it won't respond to the DMX effect in xLights. I don't think I have it setup in Layout incorrectly, as testing the same port with my DMX fog machine works just fine.

What's strange is that it will respond to various pixel effects, like Bars and Butterfly (it'll just have a seizure and light up random colors though), just not the DMX one.

Setup: F16V3 > Ethernet cable (DMX port 2) > RJ45 to XLR female adapter > input DMX port

What are the channels on that head?  Maybe there is a master channel that needs to be set before other channels do anything

16, and I have it set as such. Don't see anything about a Master channel, though :(

I can?t read the photo but the channel you are looking for is often called shutter.

If you press the ibb.co link you'll see it in higher resolution

So you have to output a 255 on channel 2 to turn it on.

And channel 3 is your dimmer so if you left it zero it stays dark

Okay I kinda got it to work, but it will only let me control 2 channels (pan and tilt), no matter how many channels I specify that it has in the layout tab. Also, it will only be controlled when I place the DMX effect in the ALL group. I tried to put a DMX effect into every track on the timeline and that's the only one that worked. Any ideas?

If I were you I would go to the zoom room. Problems like this take days to solve here and 15 mins in the zoom room.

I can't view any links from here but the DMX effect needs to be dropped on the model by itself.  It can work with groups but you need to get it working on the model first before making it more complicated.  When you say you tried it on "every track" I have no idea what that means.  I hope you weren't expanding the model and trying to drop the DMX effect onto the line for each channel.  Most issues controlling a DMX device arise from the start channel not being correct.  If you have Pan and Tilt working then all the channels should work because there is nothing special about those channels.  xLights doesn't even really know anything that makes those channel special.  If you have the correct start channel and drop a DMX effect on the model level, pull the channel 2 and 3 sliders all the way to 255 then all the other channels should work.
